I graduate from Curtin University, Australia. I decided to come to Singapore after graduation to look for job and I really thank God for Hope Singapore’s ministry (JEDI) that help me settled down in Singapore. I have been joining JEDI ministry since. As many of us are overseas grads, I found it easier to adapt to the people and the culture. Through many activities and fellowship, JEDI ministry has help me to adapt and grow in God. I believe JEDI ministry will be able to bridge and help the needs of international that settling down in Singapore.
Yoppy
I was always worried about me not fitting into the Singapore’s lifestyle before I came. Most people might have considered me to be able to adapt well with most developed countries as I have been to Malaysia and the UK for education for a few years. But beneath the surface, I was not too sure whether this is an ideal place for me as I had the perception that Singapore is a country where people are required to work long hours and therefore less time to serve in the Church and enjoy their lives.
However God sort of spoke through my parents that He wants me to be in Singapore. When I reached Singapore and began seeking for my first full-time job after my graduation in the UK, God guided me through in finding an ideal job. I thank God that in my current job I am supervised by a strong Christian Boss.
Most importantly, He put me in a group that was newly formed not long before I arrived. The group called JEDI (Jesus Empowered Disciples International). I believe God has formed this group specially for me and for fresh graduates who came from overseas. In this group, I got to know people from different background and experiences in life. The group has given me the golden opportunity to grow and most importantly to touch more lives especially overseas fresh graduates. I feel a strong sense of belonging to this group. Because of the strong and biblical church and the JEDI group, I found my spiritual walk with God becoming closer each day. Not only that, the life in Singapore is after all very exciting. This is one of the best cities, if not the best city I found.
From this experience, I learned that God always keeps His promises and He wants me to remember that His ways are always special and definitely the best for me. I encourage all of you who are not sure of where to go for your career after you graduate to strongly rely on Him. If you think He wants you to come to Singapore, just trust him and come. In here, you will find yourself being trained strongly. And moreover, we need more people like you who have studied overseas to serve together with us, as Singapore is now becoming the gate for the globe. Look forward to seeing you soon in JEDI group.

It has been such an amazing journey for me to be in Singapore. After I graduated from university, I was still unsure where I should go, but Singapore is definitely one of the few choices I considered.
I was always given an impression that working in Singapore is going to be crazy (esp working in the Big Four as an auditor), and I won’t be able have the time to serve in church. But when I came to Singapore for a short holiday, I visited Hope Singapore. I know this sounds crazy but I just fell in love with the church! Maybe you can call this love at first sight? I guess God already put something inside my heart about this church then. So when the door of my career opened wide for me in Singapore, I took that step of faith to believe that God wants me to be in Singapore for this moment and came to work.
I really thank God for a group of passionate brothers and sisters in church in the JEDI CG. They are my source of support and encouragement, especially the leaders, as I was away from home. I was deeply encouraged by their faith, courage, and LOVE for God and people! I finally found a group of same minded people who has the same passion as me, to want to reach out to the nations and the world. Thanks to the strong discipleship in Hope Singapore that I grew a lot spiritually, and was given opportunities to serve in various ministries as well.
Before I started work, I prayed to God that I will still be given time to serve Him in church despite of the crazy work load as an auditor. And praise God! He answered my prayers! I was even given chance to share Christ in my workplace. Thank God for the JEDI group again as they always help me to keep in touch with my colleagues whom I tried to reach out.
In short, I love the JEDI group =)
I would like to start off by thanking God and praising Him for His blessing in every area of my life especially my spiritual family, called the JEDI group. A little bit of my background, I am a Malaysian graduated from the University of Queensland 4 years ago and was working in UQ for a year. During my stay in Australia, I attended Hope Brisbane and Judah Life Group (student group). I really enjoyed everything that I have, from fellowship and growth in Hope Brisbane to my studies and job. But in the end, I decided to move to Singapore. It was God divine appointment as I met two leaders from Hope Singapore during their visit to Brisbane and from there I was connected to one of the life group called JEDI.
Even before I came to Singapore, the brother and sister in this JEDI group have been helping me to find lodging. I really appreciate the support, encouragement and prayers that have been given. One example was during my job search in Singapore. It has not been an easy journey as I sent application letter, one after another and as time passes by, uncertainty started to seep into my mind. I really thank God that even during this period of time, this group of brothers and sisters continues to encourage (share and testify) me and even pray for me weeks after weeks. I was really touched by their sincere heart, love and faith in God. Praise God that doors have been opened for me as I will be working in National University of Singapore as a research officer.
I missed my previous Life Group, but I really thank God for giving me another spiritual family (that love and care for one another) in Singapore that I can truly call a family. I believe that we are put in a spiritual family by God for a reason as we represent different parts of the body which will form one body in Christ (1 Cor 12:12-31). Praise God for the JEDI group!!

I would like to share the significance of being overseas to me. After I had reached Melbourne for my undergraduate studies, God was so real to me. I encountered people who committed their lives for the purpose of the gospel and church came alive for me. More importantly, I knew God in a way that was so undeniable and real. I really loved the times that I learnt His word and fellowshipped with Him and fellow believers. It was during the time that I was supposed to be the most alone but I was not. The Lord walked beside me the whole time and always prepared the way for me.
I thank God for bringing me to Hope Church, especially to my caregroup- JEDI (Jesus Empowered Disciples International) after I returned home to embark on my first job. It was a challenging time and I had to face many things in my new career. After the first year, the church started an overseas ministry group where we hosted the people who have studied overseas and came to Singapore to work. Interestingly, almost my whole family works overseas now. This made me feel like many of my friends who are by themselves in Singapore as well. I also thank God that He has brought some of my university friends to come and work in my home country. I’m so privileged to serve alongside them like we did in campus days except we all have to balance work, church and even professional exams! It used to be just exams and church.
One thing that I thank God for is my father’s enthusiasm for the Lord in the last few months after being he left for a long term overseas work assignment in Philippines. For most parts of my Dad’s life, he was in church but it was never real for him. It was the same thing for me before I had left home. However, going overseas has changed his perspective of life. I can only give God the glory! I’m very excited to serve in this ministry though I am ‘home’. Just like how the local church in Philippines has provided spiritual home for my Dad, I want to do the same for brother and sisters here. I thank God for the overseas experience and hope that I can bring the sense of family to fellow believers as they come to Singapore to work. More importantly, I pray that through the love and bond that we share, we are able to share the message of Jesus to those who have yet to know Him!

To many coming to Singapore after graduation, there are so many wishes/dreams to be realised. JEDI has gone past simply helping overseas graduates fit into Singapore lifestyle with their thoughtfully planned programs… more importantly, they have brought the wonderful Christ-like love and family that I didn’t really anticipate coming back to working life in Singapore. We salute you leaders and regulars in JEDI!
“I’ve been richly blessed to be part of JEDI this holidays! JEDI is somewhere I can easily fit into and naturally feel belonged to. The events organised by JEDI (e.g. Vday) are really creative and engaging! Joining JEDI has enriched my holidays and made it much more meaningful! I wished I could have spent more time in JEDI and I look forward to my next holiday back in Singapore with JEDI!”

The fellowship and support that the group provides has given me a chance to learn more. Especially with the morning devotions, everyone comes together with that heart for more and it’s just good! So thank you JEDI for being wonderful. Continue to grow, continue to inspire!!
